At Newegg, there are three Samsung 830 Series 256GB on sale. The bare drive (Internal) is $229. The laptop kit is $249. The desktop kit is $216.

I understand the added cost of the notebook kit, but why is the desktop kit $13 cheaper than the bare internal drive? Is it inferior or less reliable? Seems like you get more for less. ???

Same drive. No differences as far as the drive is concerned. You get a 3.5 adapter, Ghost and possibly even a game last time I looked at them.

I picked up a bare drive awhile back. Its an excellent drive.

The puzzler is why is the desktop kit $13 more than the bare drive?

It's probably just due to newegg's automatic pricing algorithm. They probably have more of the desktop kits in stock.

That makes sense. I want to put the 830 in my Thinkpad - don't need kit. Looks like the desktop is the best buy - use the drive and can the rest. 🙂

P.S. I just ordered it from the Egg - $219.99 w/free shipping. Looks like best value at present.
