differences between WD10000LSRTL & WD1001FALS

I thought the SRTL is just the retail version of the drive, but a few sites have mentioned the FALS has a fail sensor that the retail doesn't. Is this fail sensor worth a damn? The retail is $99 at Best Buy and the OEM is $109 on Newegg. With shipping it would be about 15 bucks more. I'm curious about this fail sensor though.

$99 is pretty tempting especially for a B&M store, I wanted to wait for Newegg to get the Spinpoint f3's back in stock but I can't lol.

It is just a retail version.

I had to buy a new drive today, my trusty 7200.10 tanked last night :_(

Anyway, I looked in fry's forever (time is money) for the WD1001FALS to match my current data drive, and all I found was the WD10000LSRTL. I went ahead and got it, and to my relief, the drive is recognized as WD1001FALS in the bios and also has that printed on the drive itself.

I guess that's just the box number for stores. It should be completely identical.
