6496 has 32MB cache vs. 64MB cache of the 6782 drive. The better drive is actually cheaper. It's a mistake on their part; buy it now.

Ah. At where I am at, both drives are priced the same.

I'm just using the drive as a place for media storage but I've saw some reviews that mentioned how the drive, because of the Advanced Formatting feature (Do I need to install any drivers for Windows Vista 64 bit as well as Ubuntu 10 32 bit in order to use it?), there were some issues with it.

iirc, wd drives with an "R" in their model number use Advanced Format which is just 4K (instead of 512 bytes) sectors. in order to have the least headache, you should use with win7 era OS or newer. if you use older os, you may need to do jumper settings, or run the WD Align utility to ensure performance.
