Differences between T40 and T41?

The T41 has the Active Protection system, which is like an airbag for your hard drive. The T40 doesn't. Aside from that, the graphics chipset may be different, bigger / smaller HDD ....

How much of a difference does the Active Protection make? I've got a R32 and have never had any problems with the HD, and this thing has been dropped a few times. IBM makes great laptops. :D

Not much. Most people find it too obtrusive to boot - but you can turn it off if you want.
The T41 also has a harddrive encasing, that dampens vibrations from drives -
that's why a 7200rpm drive works in the t41, without making noticeable noise.
