RB2 has the market corned on downloadable content, with currently over 350 songs for you to choose from. RB2 also has the better overall band play, with different features such as no fail mode and general world tour progression online or off. GHWT doesn't seem to offer much else other than the ability to create your own songs and download other's creations. GHWT also has the better instruments overall IMO.

The presentation of rb2 is far superior IMO. The RB2 guitar is also much better, although thats more a matter of taste and what you're used to. The music maker was very gimmicky after trying it out in person, not something I'd actually ever use.

The GH drums are only marginally better - those cymbals are just as hard and plastic as the pads, they dont wobble like real cymbals, but overall the set is MUCH, MUCH quieter than the RB1 drums (havent tried RB2 drums).

On the other hand, GH:WT has "La Bamba", which when sang by a drunk idiot as loud and obnoxiously as possible (at 2AM, preferably in a crowded apt building), is by far the most fun I've ever had with any music game, ever. We were rolling around so hard we kept failing, and by the time we had to start over the third time - well, just imagine trying to sleep over that, thinking the nightmare is over and then out of nowhere again comes "BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH LA BAMBA!!!" I swore someone was going to break down the door with an axe and murder us. Good times. :)

Other than those two things, RB2 all the way.

'Roam' by the B-52s
'Rio' by Duran Duran
'Margaritaville' by Jimmy Buffet
'Roxane' by The Police
'Say it Ain't So' by Weezer

All on Rock Band, all totally worth it when you're wasted with your friends.

That's why I'm saving up for the RB2 drum set so I can add the three cymbals. The way the cymbals attach, by screwing them on to a pole, I'm hoping they can be a little loose so that when you hit them they sway a bit.

RB2 set is awesome. Mine never miss notes. I have the cymbals and they never drop notes either. You screw them into the pole they come with. If you leave it a little more losse it will have more sway probably but I don't know how it would register. Either way I think they are great. I just wish there was a better way to tell which one to hit.

Just curious as to how the cymbals change the game. Are they just different places to hit the same notes in the song, or do the songs actually get more complicated?

Harmonix said, regarding the cymbals, that for now they will simply duplicate the function on the main drumset and that songs are still worked for 4 pads + kick. They did say that in the future they could recognize each pad separately, most likely through Rock Band 3. Each pad can be recognized separately right now in RB2. In freestyle mode with the cymbals attached, each cymbal is recognized individually and the main set acts as a tom, but there's still only 4 lanes on the board.

Thanks. I guess I'll be giving a pass on the RB2 drum set entirely. There's no point of having cymbals, for me anyway, when they don't really do anything to the core gameplay. The freestyle mode isn't really good enough to warrant getting the new set for me.

you feel more connected to the music with rockband, whereas there is some weird delay with guitar hero.

Same here. I think Guitar Hero's graphics are still too "cartoony" while RB is more realistic. I actually prefer GHWT's setlist over RB2 but the Rock Band series has by far better and more downloadable songs

I own both games, all of the RB1/2 instruments and the GH:WT guitar. I do play on expert for the both the guitar and drums, while the gf sings on expert. IMO, RB2 is leaps and bounds beyond GH:WT. RB2 has a wider selection of DLC already available plus all but 2 songs from RB1 can be used. The gui is much easier to navigate and the actual charts are much easier to read. In GH:WT when playing as a band, if one person fails, the entire band fails. Also, you fail out much more quickly than in RB. When I say quicker, I mean if you miss about 2 seconds of notes, you are already in the red.

GH:WT just plain sucks IMO. I finished it on Bass carreer and no battles. I have to do the career on guitar if I want to open up more songs and the lame-ass boss battles. Song selection is meh at best. Whats with the really bad live versions of some songs? Horrible sound quality in digital surround modes, UI is pathetic, get a new font already! Its just crap. Just overall not even close to even RB1 let alone RB2. The GH series really took a dump after GH3. It needs a complete overhaul and stick to its namsake. Guitar Hero. Leave the band stuff to Rock Band. :)
