I've been trying to find info about this on the internet but without much luck. Anyone have experience with both of these that can fill me in?

Ok, that helps. I saw a review also that points out the TV out feature with hardware decoder on the 350. The only thing that is killing me now is the converting DVD movies to XVid or DivX has my computer tied up for hours. Will the conversion process be assisted in any way by this hardware? Sorry for stupid questions, this is the first time I've really looked at this sort of thing.

Nope, not a bit.

To be honest, since the price of DVD burners and media are so reasonable, I've found the "cost" of converting DVD's to a high compression codec like Divx to be completely unreasonable compared to just burning a copy....just something to consider:)

I do have a DVD burner, but wanted to put my DVD library on my computer so I can access them through SageTV or similar without digging through DVD's and such. I know it sounds horribly lazy.. but this way I can have DVD's borrowed by others and still have access to them, etc...

Doesn't sound lazy, actually I prefer to have my DVD library available as well. I rip the DVD's that won't fit on a single layer DVD and the ones I'm most likely to watch to a hardrive so that they're available from the MCE interface, which as you know, consumes large amounts of hardrive space.

I don't know of any Divx, MPEG4 or WMV encoding help other than getting a faster CPU unfortunately.
