differences between galaxy tab 2 and note 10.1?

So I'm looking at getting a tablet. I really want one with the higher sensitivity for writing with a stylus and it appears both of these tables have that, though I'm not sure if one is better than the other.

But why does Samsung have 2 different lines of tablets that appear to be very similar? Is there a major advantage of going with one over the other?

I will likely go for a used one so I can pay around $300 for one.

The main things I'm looking for is:
-speed
-stylus use to do math problems(I am a math teacher and want to use this in the classroom). It looks like Samsung's dongle Allcast only works with the note 10.1 though.
-general reading and writing on pdf and other word type documents(generally with stylus).
-then just general fun use at home(internet/games/basic streaming)

Any suggestions or input would be very helpful.

thanks, also how do these work as far as getting on my cell network? I know ATT offers to add a tablet for $10 per month, do I need to buy a specific version for it to work on ATT?

You can only get built in 4G on the Tab 2. And at AT&T we are running a combo deal where if you get an S4 you get the Tab 2 for $199. So if you're looking to upgrade your phone/add a line that's a hell of a deal.

Only the Note does.
If you want a Samsung tablet you want a Note.
FYP

The real question is: Note 10.1 or Note 8?

EDIT: just read the cell data stuff. Only the junky Tab is officially offered on AT&T. The LTE Note 10.1 is on Verizon but is contract-free and *should* be compatible with HSPA+ on the Death Star... assuming no SIM/APN hijinks (which should be straightforward to get around in any case).

I do not think that $200 is a good deal for a Tab 2.

I believe the the Galaxy Tab 2 is based on 2010 tech. It has a Tegra 2.

The original Tab 10.1 and Tab 8.9 had Tegra 2s. The Tab 2 line up has OMAP4 parts. Marginally better.

Damn your shady marketing, Samsung!

Btw I think your best option overall is the wifi Note 10.1, which you can tether when required.

The Tab 2 is starting to show its age. Still a decent tablet but you could do better.

The SoC is not even CLOSE between these 2 tablets. Go with the Note 10.1, if you could see them perform side by side you wouldn't even be asking this question :)
Also, Wacom digitizer with 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity is amazing. I love mine.

This is what I do. Tether my Note 10.1 to my Note 2.
Syncs all my S-Notes & calender events.
