Differences between firewalls/routers?

I have a Linksys firewall/router right now, and I'm going to pick up another one for my Mom. Is there really any significant difference between any of the firewalls out there? People keep recommending the Netgear model, but is there any real difference from the Linksys one I have? More features, that sort of thing?
 
The only significant difference I've noticed is that the Netgear has a higher maximum data rate, around 8Mb/s. This isnt even an issue for most people. Be warned the Netgear isnt friendly to configure, you have to understand basic IP config rules. Pretty much all of them get the job done though.
