My current system (in my sig) needs an overhaul. More than likely I will get a new mobo and ram as well as go to vista ultimate 64bit. Still undecided on the mobo but I generally go with crucial for ram. One of my current modules is bad so I will rma soon. Figured I'd just step up to PC2 6400 and just sell the rma'ed ones when they get back. Unless I can mix 667 MHz and 800 MHz????

Here are the two in question.

Crucial 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

thanks.

Do not mix 667 and 800 memory, unless you want to run all the modules at 667MHz.

The specs for both types of RAM above are the same, so the difference is in the packaging only, and the Special Edition has LED's.

yeah, I figured it wouldn't be good to mix them.

So if I got both of the above kits for a total of 4GB they should work well together? Not a fan of the leds but I can't get 2 rebates on the same item.

Now I need to find a good mobo.

they are identical sets. if you dont want the LEDS save yourself some money and buy 1 pair of 2x1gb, send in your rebate, wait until your current offer expires, and buy another pair. crucial ballistix ALWAYS have rebates making them under $60

thanks.

I got the LANFEST blue led ones a few days ago and have them running at DDR1000 @ 5-5-5 2T at the moment at 2.0v. Stock volts is 2.2v so Im sure I still have more overclocking headroom. These sticks rock! Some have been able to get them over 1200+!!

Yeah, I wouldn't mind the leds if they run good. I just wish newegg allowed 2 kits per rebate.
