Difference in Quality Honda and Toyota

All vehicle manufacturers are just about the same in quality. Domestic and Japanese. The big kicker is the actual model you choose to get. Some Honda lines are better than Toyota, some Fords are better than Honda.

Civic VS Corolla

my father in law has a '94 civic with 335k on it and it runs like a top. Looks very nice still as well. he put all those miles on himself. My older toyota corrolla 80 something wasn't as nice as his honda. Hondas were better if you keep them up and need less upkeep after 150k IMO.

That's like saying Win98 is just as stable as Windows 2000 because one is built by overpaid, under-educated, and lazy factor workers who feel they are owed a job.

I'll take Honda's lower line vehicles like the Civic, base accords etc, and Toyota for the Camry, etc.

what the are you talking about?

I'd give a slight edge to Toyota, but both are excellent cars. I'd put Toyota (particularly Lexus) and Honda at #1 and #2 in terms of overall quality.

Lets' take 10 random Japanese factor workers, and 10 random American auto factory workers. Give them all a college equivelancy entrance exam, and see who does better.

Aren't a lot of our "imports" actually built in the USA though? I'd imagine that American Ford workers and American Honda workers have about the same level of education.

True true. Many Hondas, Toyotas, BMWs, and many other "imports" are built in the US. I think for the most part American cars are close in terms of overall reliability, but the materials (particularly interior materials) and fit and finish tend to be inferior to the Japanese.

Such hate for domestics in these kiddy forums. US automakers have long road ahead of them.

I agree with DonVito with his comments. Slight edge to Toyota but both make excellent cars. I own two Toyotas, two Hondas, and a Dodge. If I could do all over again I would replace one of my Toyotas with a GM.

both the civic and the corolla are pretty much unstoppable, as long as you keep up with normal scheduled services and fix the little things when they break (like altenators or water pumps, etc). the core engines and tranny's are rock solid though. i'd go with whichever one you enjoy driving more. they're about equal in fit and finish, as well.

I think things depend mostly on the driver and upkeep nowadays. Buick is rated really high, but mostly old people who don't drive much drive them and keep them in top shape. Where a small kia is going to be drove to hell by the pizza delivery boy

hi. thanks for making me feel superior.

from what i've seen from this newspaper article, toyotas have a slight edge on quality over honda but they were pretty close and in the top 10 for manufacturers for quality.

but if you're seriously considering a honda accord, look into the hyundai sonata. these are rated higher than the honda accord and about the same price.

Quality depends on what the car is built out of and the workers. I heard a lot of Ford workers (for example) are really d@mn lazy and even sabotage the cars. I'm sure BMW and Toyotas built in the US are just as reliable as made in Japan, because the workers they hire actually have pride and are better overall.
I don't think American Ford workers = American Honda workers.

And, WTF do you base this thinking on?

I also heard that the only thing that causes bad marks against foreign autos is that the cup holders are too small, but the domestics are pretty much engines blowing up, transmissions falling out, and vehicle fires.

I have always seen more old Civic than Corollas on the roads. Maybe they are more popular around here? Maybe they last longer?

I've noticed that, but I've also noticed more old camrys than accords on the roads (pre-2000). Recently, though, in my neighborhood, toyota dominates - you see corollas and camrys EVERYWHERE.
