What is the difference between Ultra ATA-100/133 and ATA-100/133??? Cable? If so, are both types of cables compatable with most Mobo's?
 
I *believe* that is the difference between the 80-pin and 40-pin cables. They are essentially the same thing, but the 80-pin has ground wires between the actual data wires to improve shielding and stuff.

Thank you. I'm looking at a Maxtor on ebay, and he is selling an 80 pin cable along with it...so it is probably the cable.

That's the difference between ATA 33 and ATA 66 and higher. ATA/33 and lower used 40-wire cables, while ATA/66 and higher need the 80 conductor cable.


The question posed was "Ultra ATA-100/133 and ATA-100/133" - keyword there being "Ultra."
There's no difference here. It's just a choice of the marketer - if you want to sound snazzy, call it "Ultra ATA" - otherwise, just plain ATA gets the point across. Both are the same thing.
