I read on another site, that the main difference between the two recent/soon to be released chipsets; x48-vs-x38; are:

The basic differences between the chipset Intel x48 and x38 is the official support to 1600 MHz system bus, corresponding frequency dividers, and also the possibility to exploit a pair of modules DDR 3-1600 with XMP technology and 1.8v.

Are these worth while if one isn't an extreme gamer/O.C.'er, or you don't have plans to use DDR3 memory?

Are/is there any good reasons to wait to see what happens with components that are slated to arrive before years end?

I am wondering the current/future plans are with x38 chipset. I am in the stages of purchasing components to assemble by Christmas (waiting for the good sales), and am not sure if it makes sense to move into x38 or just stay with p35. Since neither of these chipsets support SLI, does waiting for the AMD/nVidia make sense for me assuming I will be purchasing the new nVidia 8800GT boards?

Components thus far are the Thermalright 120 extreme. Next purchase by mid-month is a Mountain Mod U2-UFO with the original top w/black powder coating.

Thoughts?
