Difference between WinXP home edition and pro?

What's the difference between these two versions? Is the home version going to be like lame like WinME and the pro version like Win2K?

If that's true, MS has taken a step back from what they were attempting to do when they produced Win2k. They presumably had the intention 2 or 3 years ago of producing a single OS that would work on single "home" machines and networked office situations (workstations). Have they abandoned those intentions?

Well the kernel is the same but there are some missing features on the Home ed. I think they do it becuase they know home users wont pay 300 or whatever for pro and they sure as hell won't lower the price.

For the average home user, the Home edition is more than sufficient. Both the Home and the Pro are built off of the Windows 2000 kernel/code base so you are getting the reliability of NT/2000 with the addition feature set of things in Windows ME.

If you don't need remote desktop, encrypted file system, domains, multiprocessor support and things like this, the Home version will be more than sufficient.

They did finally reach that goal but they really, really want to sell XP at the $299+ price point. But they know if experience retail sales will be dismal at that price. Enter the Home version. Strip away a few features so you can "justify" a lower price and, WaLaa, problem solved.
