I am thinking about getting a used white macbook because it is cheaper than expensive used macbook pro but all i know they are not same CPU so what else did I miss? The reason I want to learn more about macbook and feel it then I can go for Macbook Pro....also latest and future OSX will work with old model like 2 year old macbook? I dont want to make a fool of buying macbook.

oh i forgot to add I will use macbook for web surfing, watch movie email, some Photoshop work...I dont plan to play hardcore game anymore.

Plastic vs Aluminum
Thickness
Heavier
Inferior screen
Less ports
2GB less RAM

And the obviously slower CPU

No point in buying a Macbook, it used to be a value proposition before the Macbook Pros were updated however.

You're comparing the base 13" models? Well, besides the aluminum unibody, the MacBook Pro has:
*2nd gen Core i processor vs Core 2
*4GB vs 2GB RAM
*320GB vs 250GB HDD
*backlit keyboard
*SDXC slot
*Firewire 800
*Thunderbolt
*glossy display :\
*sexier

Hope I didn't miss anything. I'd pay the extra $200 for the MBP. If you have a Micro Center nearby, they have them for $1000.

He was talking about used, so it is a whole different proposition. OP, it depends on the age of the used system, and how much you are willing to spend.

If you don't need what the MacBook Pro offers, just get the used MacBook, as long as it's a decent deal with decent memory. 2 GB is minimum these days IMO, but if usage is light then 2 GB is sufficient (for the right price). Another option is a refurb white MacBook. You get the full 1 year warranty with that.

BTW, if the MacBook Pro didn't have Firewire and a backlit keyboard, I'd buy the white MacBook.

In fact, that's exactly what I did. When the aluminum MacBook came out, it didn't have Firewire and the entry level model didn't have a backlit keyboard, so I bought a refurb white MacBook instead.

For the next revision, Apple saw the light and added Firewire and a backlit keyboard to all the aluminum MBPs... and dropped the price.

P.S. I waiting on the same for the 11" MacBook Air. The current model is crippled. It will be nice to see it gain Thunderbolt and a backlit keyboard, as well as a better hinge and longer lasting battery.
