Well, to tell you the truth they are very similar. They both run the Palm OS so all of the software that will run on the Palm III will run on the Visor. The Visor uses a nice USB cradle which is cool. I think the Palm III uses a serial connection. The Palm III has 2MB of flash memory so that you can update the OS from time to time, but this isn't all that important IMO. Finally, the visor is capable of accepting addon modules, while the Palm is not. There are supposed to be some cool ones coming out (i.e. MP3 player, some games, etc.), but currently there's nothing available that I need or want.

I decided on the Visor Deluxe (the 8MB) and I'm very happy with it. Hope this helps...

I havent used the palm 3 but I have a visor & I am very happy with it. Aside from the fact that I believe the visor is more bang for your buck. The addon module feature is very cool. I have a friend who has a cel phone attached to his so he can check his E mail, He is ordering the module to play mp3'S.
& tHE BEST FEATURE IS YOU CAN GET DIFFRENT COLOR CASES:D

Unless you're REALLY short on cash, the two I usually recommend are the Palm IIIxe and the Visor Deluxe. The drawback of the Visor is a slightly older OS which has been ever so slightly modified, so you get 99% but not 100% software compatibility. The stuff actually worth getting is compatible with both however. The drawback of the Palm is the lack of an expansion port. To me, the Visor's backup module (which is $40 extra) is the best thing since sliced bread.

See my Visor FAQ for more information on the Visor. (It's a bit stale now, but I should be updating it in a couple of weeks.)

Just a note that you can use your world phone with a IIIxe and Visor Deluxe as well. I also like the Vx, purely for looks and size, but it is probably a bit too expensive for most poor students. It does not provide additional functionality though.

True, but the 8megs comes in very handy when you have a lot of mail. :)
