I have an 1 mp3 player that will play both and I just picked up a cheap one from Hot Deals that only plays type 1. I put a 128MB San Disk in the 2nd player and it didn't work. I tried a 96 and it did. None of the cards say type 1 or 2.

BAM!

Kodak FAQ

What is the difference between Type I, Type II, and Type III PC Cards?

Type I - First standard defined by PC Card Association. Dimensions: 85.6 mm x 54.0 mm x 3.3 mm.

Type II - Second standard form factor defined by PC Card Association. Dimensions: 85.6 mm x 54.0 mm x 5.0 mm. The KODAK Picture Card with Adapter fit into a Type II slot.

Type III - Third standard form factor defined by PC Card Association. Dimensions: 85.6 mm x 54.0 mm x 10.5 mm. An example of this is the PCMCIA hard drive in a KODAK PROFESSIONAL DCS Digital Camera.

One of the differences is physical size. A Type I card fits into a Type II slot. A Type I and Type II cards fit into a Type III slot. Due to the larger physical size, the Type III card does not fit into a Type II or Type I slot. Similarly, a Type II card does not fit into a Type I slot.

Hmmm...
It must be something else then. The cards both fit into the 2nd mp3 players slot but the 128MB won't play. It does play in the 1st mp3 player.
BTW, thanks BlueApple for doing the work.

Is there any max memory limit for you 2nd mp3 player? Like it supports Max 96MB or something?

Also different brands of CF cards make a difference... my Kodak digicam doesnt work with no-name brand CF cards... while cards like SanDisk or SimpleTech works perfectly...

Well if you can plug the card into the slot then it should be a type I card... which mp3 player is it?

Uses Type I CompactFlash up to 128MB. Does NOT require any music manager to use this device.

Looks like there's an upper limit of 128mb.... but your 128MB sandisk should still work on it...

The CF controller is on the card, correct? So there shouldn't be an upper limit.

Maybe it just doesn't like San Disk. The 96MB card is Simple Technology.
