Difference between the Sx830 and Sx1030

The 1030 is bigger it has 4 - 5 1/2" drive bays instead of three and the 1030 has a hinged door that covers the external drive bays
 
The SX1030 also has an extra drive cage for 3 more internal hard drives. Both case are the exact same size though, just built differently.
 
They are built in the same box, they just have different bezels and drive bay arrangements. The 1030 has a different fan holder that fits inside the lower drive cage.

When I was tossing this system together I noticed something disturbing about that lower drive cage. I had wanted to have the fan blowing over a couple HD's down there but when a HD is in the bay, even in the furthest-back position, it will hit the handle of the fan clip. I currently don't even have that lower cage in (it's sitting on the floor here.) Has anyone else found this out as well? It isn't too much of a problem for me, but it must be a pain for the 1030/40 owners who can't have a fan in that position when there are drives in that cage.
 
I have a fan in that cage and 2 75GXP's in there two...I havn't noticed anything touching at all.

Uh, like I said, the 1030 uses a different fanholder that snaps into the lower drive cage. Different from the other 3 fanholders that are also used in the 830, that mount to the case itself. You may have the wrong part....
 
recentally some of the antec cases were screwed up and some people that ordered sx830s got a sx1030 with a sx830 bezel, so they ended up getting 6 int 3.5 bays, so you might get lucky and get one of those

anyways, last time i checked the sx1030 was only about $15 more than the sx830

i have a sx830 and love it, wouldve gotten the sx1030 cept i dont like doors, even though i may be getting a chenbro echo because its the only case i can find that will fit all the crap i need to fit in my next computer
 
I have the 830 with the extra cage. What is different about that other fan clip? I think the only part that is interfering is the ig handle and maybe the two clips that hold the fan. if I trimmed those down flush with the fan, it might work. Whaddya think?
 
I have the 1030 with both hardrives in my lower cage, I made no modifications and have no interference with the fan at all....are you sure you have the fan blowing in?

That might work, might also call Antec on the phone, they allegedly stock parts. Just a few bucks...
 
I just stuck a 92mm fan in my extra cage... piece of cake, took the fan holder off the case stuck the 92mm in there.. its a snug fit if you do it right but it isn't going anywhere..
 
the 1030 comes with a fan holder that actually attaches to the inside of the fan cage, antec charges $10 for a 2 pack of those, so i just screwed in a fan through the wholes already in the front of my sx830 and it works fine
 
I DID IT! I just trimmed the big handle on the purple fan clip and I can hold two drives in there no problem! The clip part that holds the fan isn't a problem when the drives are in the right position, but it might be in the way with a different type of drive. If anyone wants pics, I'll try to post some. It really cut down the noise because now those loud HD's are further back in the case and have a fan in front of them.
