Difference between the GeForce2 Ti 200 and GeForce2 Ti?

Other than $50 at best buy? I couldn't find much of a difference between the two cards from reading the boxes, and not finding much on-line. Only thing I noticed was that the 200 claimed to support DX 8.1?

<< The Anandtech review was quite comprehensive :) >>

Indeed it was, when reviewing the following:
GeForce3 Ti 500
GeForce3 Ti 200
GeForce2 Ti 200

No mention of the GeForce 2 Ti.

Not quite comprehensive enough, hence the question.

Huh? Try clarifying this babble?

GeForce2 Ti 200 and the GeForce2 Ti were both clocked at 250/400 (as I said in my original post, the specs are the same).

GeForce2 Ti 200=GeForce2 Ti

It is a bit redundant to state the 200 part, all GF2 Tis are GeForce2 Ti 200s. With the GF3 stating 200 or 500 makes quite a bit of difference so odds are you will always see them clearly marked as such. No need with the GF2s.

OK, go into your local best buy. These are on the shelf, a GeForce2 Ti 200 and a GeForce2 Ti (no 200). 200 is priced at $199, (no 200) is priced at $149. 2 different sku's, etc. They are the VisionTek Xtasy line. When reading the specs, they had all the exact same specs on speeds, ram, etc.

So the two cards listed are not the same, at least at Best Buy, where maybe this is some marketing deal. But the boxes were clearly labeled as different models. VisionTek's site sucks, it lists the Xtasy line as having 200mhz core clock where the boxes in store labeled as 250mhz (funny, it has a sticker on it saying Now 250Mhz!). And it only lists 3 models, 6764 (GF3...is it the Ti 500?) 5564 (MX400) and 5332 (which is just the MX200). NOW, reading a press release on their site I glean this:

Featuring the new Titanium? graphics processing units by NVIDIA® Corporation, GeForce3 Ti 500, GeForce3 Ti 200 and GeForce2 Ti are the new processors driving VisionTek's Xtasy 6964, Xtasy 6564, and Xtasy 5864, respectively. All three products are expected to ship to Best Buy, CompUSA, Electronics Boutique, Fry's and Gamestop during the first few weeks of October 2001. So there is the Ti only (5864). Of course no specs on their site for these except the 6964. Their site really bites, their homepage doesn't even load for me.

Xtasy 6964, featuring the Ti 500 chipset, performs up to one and a half times faster than the original GeForce3, setting new levels of performance for the gaming enthusiast. OK, this one makes sense

Xtasy 6564, powered by the Ti 200 chip, makes GeForce3 technology architecture available to a broader audience. Ok, different chip. Got it from anandtechs review.

Xtasy 5864, using the GeForce2 Ti engine, offers higher levels of graphics performance for mainstream computers by delivering 1 billion pixel/sec. rendering power and delivering 6.4GB/sec. of bandwidth for the first time in this market segment. Aha! Hmm...what is the difference between the GeForce2 Ti engine and the Ti200 Chip? From the specs...no difference. Hmm

So clearly we have a card here that was not addressed by anandtech's review.

Here is the 5864 at compusa Link
and some specs snipped:

Graphics Chipset: GeForce2 Ti
Graphics Core: 250MHz, 256-bit 2D/3D GPU
Memory/Interface: 64MB DDR/128-bit wide
Memory Clock: 400 MHz SDR Equivalent
Memory Bandwidth: 6.4 GB/sec.
Fill Rate (texels): 2B/sec.
2D/3D resolution (max): 2048 x 1536 @ 75Hz

Priced at $179.99, EB has it for $149.99 (same price as best buy).

My research continues, I can't find specs on the 200 anywhere, but I know they match the above. Hence why I started this thread in the first place! Hope this clears things up for people.

The three VisionTeks you listed are two different GeForce3s and one GeForce2. The SRP on the GeForce3 Ti200 is $199, the SRP on the GeForce2 Ti 200 is $149.

LOL. After reading my previous posts now I feel dumb :) What a difference a 1 makes. What confused me was instead of listing them as "GeForce3 Ti 200 & GeForce2 Ti 200", they list them as "GeForce3 Ti 200" and "GeForce2 Ti"...making me ignore the 2 and instead focusing on the lack of the 200. Oh well live and learn :)

So, the difference is merely between a GeForce2 Ti 200 and a GeForce3 Ti 200. And reviewing anandtech's article, the difference between the 2 of these cards " It's without a doubt that our recommendation is to purchase the GeForce3 Ti 200 unless you can find a cheaper GeForce3 card.

While the GeForce2 Ti 200 was supposed to revolutionize the mainstream add-in card market, it actually doesn't do much more than the GeForce2 Pro was already doing. If you look carefully enough, you can find OEM GeForce2 Pro cards selling for the $149 price tag that the GeForce2 Ti 200 will debut at. Hopefully this will make the current stock of GeForce2 Pro cards decrease in price even more, making them the killer buy. But in the long run, you get the same performance out of either of the two. "

Sounds like I need to return my GeForce2 Ti (200) and trade it in for a 3 for the extra $50. Hope they don't mind I opened it :)

at bestbuy, the visiontek priced at 199 is the GF3 ti200
thats a gf3

the gf2ti is the 150 one
also, on teh gf2ti box, there should be a silver circle sticker that says, NOW 250 mhz!

simplified...

GF 3 Ti 500 - 500 = 500MHz DDR memory clock (uses 3.5ns memory)
GF 3 Ti 200 - 200 = 200MHz SDR memory clock = 400MHz DDR (uses 5.0ns memory)
GF 2 Ti 200 - 200 = 200MHz SDR memory clock = 400MHz DDR (uses 5.0ns memory)*

*the GeForce 2 Ti 200 does not need the 200 to designate its position because it is the only 'titanium' in the GeForce 2 line, this is why we see it titled as the GeForce 2 Ti.

The primary difference is that the GeForce 3 Ti boards use GeForce 3 GPUs, which are much faster than the GF2 GTS chips the GeForce 2 Ti uses.
