How much of a jump to go from my 9800 Pro to an x700 ish ? Thx

You gotta go to at least X800 Pro, X800 XL, X850 Pro, 6800 GT to get a worthwhile boost. If you want a major boost then a X1800 XL or 7800 GT will do it.

Yeah, there is almost never a point in going from the last gen's top end to this gen's midrange.

You would be about the same performance, maybe less due to the difference in memory bit interface 256 (9800) vs 128 (X700). I grabbed the recent MicroCenter hot deal for the X850 XT, replacing a 9800 and couldn't be happier. I would not have made a change for any X700.

They arent unlockable... THe agp ones cant be unclocked. Maybe the 6800gs with the unlocked pipes might do it.
