Does anyone know the difference between the Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Card, and the X-Fi XtremeAudio Card?

They appear to have the same hardware specs.

Possibly different software package to justify the $40 price difference.

I want to use it for gaming, is the additional $40 justified for this purpose?

The XtremeGamer (and XtremeMusic if you can find it) are superior to the XtremeAudio. The "Audio" variant is not a full X-Fi chip, more akin to the older Audigy SE cards which do not support hardware acceleration.

Really?

Holy False Advertising. you would think with the X-Fi moniker and very similar positioning of both these cards, the difference would be much less subtle that 'No Hardware Acceleration'.

Thanks for the Reply Snyder.

I'm still running XP, so I don't expect the Crappy Vista Direct Drivers issue to cause me a problem.

Yeah, do a search on the X-Fi's in the "General Hardware" sub-forum. There has been
a lot of discussion on these during the past few months. I am very pleased with my
XtremeMusic. I bought it on clearance at my local Office Depot for $60.
