Difference between RDRAM and DDR

Can somebody please explain to me the difference between RDRAM and DDR ?

I am currently planning on building a P4 machine and want to get the max out of it. From what i understand DDR is better but dunno, i'm just a n00b in this. Reason i am asking is, I only seem to find Mobo's with socket 423 and raid built in that support SDRAM or RDRAM, not successful in locating such a mobo with DDR support, yet that is.

Anyhow, help much appriciated, thx 😉

Honestly, wait for about 5 more months...the Northwood P4s will be out and the Intel 845d mobos (I believe that's the Intel mobo supporting socket 478 and DDR SDRAM).

Anyway, by then, you'll see more mobo makers making the P4 + DDR mobo using the Intel, SiS, and/or VIA chipsets...SiS has a nice one and VIA--we'll see what happens after the legal battle and Intel--always solid...

See the FAQ: What is DDR SDRAM? for an explanation of DDR SDRAM;
and here for a short explanation of RDRAM.

Essentially they are different technologies. While DDR SDRAM is based on traditional SDRAM, RDRAM is something completely different, using a very fast, narrow serial bus for its accesses.
