Difference between Radeon 9700 retail and oem?

Czar

I'm going to be ordering t soon among other hardware parts probably from newegg because everyone recomends the place 🙂 but they only have or will have the oem version of the 9700 so what would I be missing and where could I get the retail version?

Pretty colorful box, possible extra software. Unsure if ATi will have different clock speeds from OEM to retail... didn't the OEM 8500 come a bit slower than the retail one?

I too would like to know the difference, but I am not sure if many people will know until the OEM's are actually sold.

dragoon42 is correct... sometimes you get a downgraded part (lower clocks, no VIVO, etc...)... plus no warranty... plus no third-party software... pluse no shiney colorful new box to put up next to your l33t case so your friends can oogle at it and say "ooooohhhh... shiney... can i hold it..."

EDIT: newegg.com might also carry the retail version for like $20-$50 bucks more... read the details...

in 1 year when it's dead, it will only be a $150 card 😛

True that, but it will be replaced by a brand new $150 card vs becoming a keychain. I paid $289 for my first AIW Radeon, and gladly RMA'd it 15 months later for a brand new card and didn't feel the least bit bad about the fact that the card was selling for $150. The alternative was a dead card....
