Difference between Quadro line and 3D gaming cards

I don't know much about 3d modeling but was wondering if anyone knows what the big difference is between say 3d gaming cards and quadro series nvidia cards. I was just curious what is there to justify the price difference.

Another forum thread asked the same thing. The reply was that the Quadro/FX workstation cards get a lot more software support via better drivers and/or other software in addition to the guarantees. That is what makes them more attractive to businesses.

The cards are physically very similar. The main reason the Quadros cost so much more are the compatibility certificates for various 3D modeling programs.

Not only do you get compatibility, but you also get speed up some time 4x faster in certain programs due to Driver Level features enabled only for quadro cards.

If you are not doing 3D Modeling for a profession and making money, a gamer card will work 90% of the time.

The price difference is basically, it is a different market, a much more expensive market, thus they can have a higher markup. Also having to do all the compatibility with software vendors is not cheap. The actually hardware is sometimes 100% identically depending on which card you are talking about. It is all in the software.
