What is the difference between the 478 pin P4 1.6A chip and the regular chip P4 1.6?
Is it just the 512K cache versus the 256K?

The great overclocks of the 1.6A that I've seen are something that I might consider buying. When looking at pricewatch I only see a few resellers with the P4 1.6A, but alot of them have the P4 1.6 with 512K cache so I was wondering if they are the P4 1.6A chips?

The 1.6A is using the Northwood core, which is built on a .13 micron process (as opposed to the older P4 chips which were .15 micron) and has 512k of L2 cache as opposed to the older 256k. I would go with the 1.6A

Mav,

As long as it has 512K cache, its the Northwood "A" version that can overclock with ease. However, I would recommend that you go with the retail package, as that gets you a quiet Intel heatsink that does very well for overclocking, plus a three year warranty with a "no questions asked" return policy (in the event lightning strikes your house and fries your computer).

I believe Newegg sells the 1.6A retail for about $145 now.

Thanx KenAF, I just wanted to make sure that "only" the 1.6A Northwood had the 512K cache for when I order it (even if it doesn't say 1.6A just 1.6 in the ads it will still be the Northwood).
