Difference between Orinoco Gold and Silver?

My college, Drexel University, has shoved this PR crap down our thoats for the last two years about how our school has the first campus to be entirely wireless in the country. I finally got a laptop this year with an Orinoco Silver card and in a good few of the buildings I can't seem to get a signal while in class other than the occasional sputter which goes out too quickly to capitalize on. I have researched the wireless cards a bit and I'm wondering if the Orinoco Gold offers a better performance range than the silver. The only difference that is advertised is a raised encryption, and if that's the case it wouldn't make sense for me to order one and try it out.

I thank everyone who took the time to read this in advance, hopefully someone can help me. :)

Silver encryption 64bits.

Gold encryption 128bits.

Every thing else same.

Gold with WEP on is actually slower then Silver.

But hey complaining is the easiest thing in the world.

Thank you for your quick reply and very helpful information. I guess I'm stuck unless I want to shell out for a Cisco. Thank you for your help, even if I'm not sure if that last comment was a jab or not :p

And congrats on your 3000th post!
