Difference between mechanical and electronic tv???

I'm going crazy trying to find this answer - I have a media studies final and I don't remember covering this in class nor do I find any mention of it in my text book.. Any ideas?? Thanks!

P.S. I googled but I didn't understand most of the lingo behind what a mechanical tv. is.. looking for a plain language explanation (electronic is our modern CRT based system)
