Difference between Leon and The Professional?

I can't remember to be honest with you. The first time I saw the movie it was Leon, and later I saw The Professional on HBO or Cinemax or something, and just felt that it was too different. I think they cut out some of the lolita stuff, focused more on the training and fighting scenes.

Couple scenes, mostly relating to his relationship with Natalie Portman's character. Nothing untoward, but I guess the studio execs worried about American sensibilities being offended. Also slightly more violent if memory serves.

Director's cut, Besson was rather unhappy with the original American release, as they had to cut out scenes that implied sexual tension between Leon and Mathilda.

Leon was the international name, The Professional was the US's.

Besson makes some good flicks. I remember when I was like, 12 or something, watching Nikita...then Point of No Return. Both were really good, but there's something more gritty and visceral about Besson's version.

Then the TV show came out, and I just wanted to hurl.
