Difference between ips and super amoled display

IPS is an LCD display tech that is pretty standard, it has a backlight, and crystals that change color when electricity is applied.

Super amoled is based on an Organic Light Emitting Diode OLED array. The pixels themselves generate light and it is made up of organic materials that are (in theory) cheaper to produce. LCDs will last for an eternity without distorting colors or losing brightness. OLEDs have a half life where they decay in brightness.

OLEDs are thinner and consume (relatively) little power. Samsung's Super Amoled also has touch sensors integrated into the display.

As always, the wiki articles are good.
