After playing through HL2 twice I decided to go for a little nostalgia and check out HL:Source. As has been written about here, the lighting and physics engines have been upgraded to Source, the sound seems better. Unfortunately the graphics package that came with Blue Shift was not there.
Overall the gameplay was almost identical with one major exception. Those flying things that shoot the energy balls at you are very agressive in HL:Source. In the old HL you could just hide in a corner and take them out with the mosquito gun (or whatever you call that thing). In HL:Source they come right at you forcing you to use your real ammo on them. It definitely made Zen a bit trickier. At times I had three of those things all around me. I also felt that the barrels that contained those big monsters broke open much easier. In addition there were no flying things in the final scene (Nihinath, or something like that), but it was a bit harder to dodge his energy balls. I believe they traveled much faster in HL:Source.
Overall it was fun to go back and play HL:Source and the small changes made it slightly refreshing.
