Difference between GA-965G-DS3 and GA-965P-DS3?

I checked the manual for the GA-965G-DS3 and it looks like I can use the onboard video while still using a pcx card. I was going to get the GA-965P-DS3 but if OC'ing will be the same I'll grab the G.

We will have the board early next week. Gigabyte is telling us after another bios massage that it should clock near the DS3. How near "near" is up for debate currently. 😉

I'd be interested to know if there is any real-world difference between the GA-965P-S3 and the GA-965P-DS3.

It is perhaps the first time in the history of motherboards that a company releases two products that are nearly identical in specs and differ only in the *quality* of components ? the DS model features solid capacitors, and costs a good $23 more than the regular S model.

I'd be interested to find out more about the S3 too. If it's the same layout and does indeed overclock good then it might be a decent alternative to the DS3. Then I could put the extra $35 toward a bigger hard drive or better graphics card.

Edit: Just got my answer - http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...?catid=29&threadid=1923233&STARTPAGE=1

I emailed gigabyte asking them if I could use both my PCX card AND the onbooard video at the same time....I read the manual and it appears I can... I'll let you know what they say...

GARY KEY- If I'm not planning on overclocking my C2D e6300 more than 25%, the G965 should still be alright...or "may" the release another hardware revision that will be more stable etc...or will they be able to fix most issuses through new bioses?

I want to buy the GIGABYTE GA-965G-DS3.
That has the Intel G965 Express Chipset with the GMA X3000.
The X3000 supports Shader Model 3.0 and a bunch of other stuff including HDR.
My X850XT graphics card only supports Shader Model 2.0.
Will I be able to play games at Shader Model 3.0?

1. How does this onboard graphics thing work?
2. Does it work in conjunction with your graphics card?

It is basically a very low-end videocard that shares memory from your RAM. It's not something you use in conjunction with a real GPU, unless this is some new technology of which I am unaware.

Well according the the Intel X3000 white paper...the graphics core (X3000) in the G965 Express chipset runs at 667MHz and can share as much as 384MB of memory for graphics.

Am I missing something?

I don't think the x3000 is intended for any intensive gaming, regardless of the specs it boasts on paper. It's usefulness is in the flexiblity it offers for end users.

Preliminary benchmarks put performance levels at below the 950 but it seems that the situation is that all of the cards features are not fully supported by the current driver. The current version is 14.24 while the final version is rumoured to be 14.27 and will support all the hardware/software features that the card offers.

The X3000 is said to support Vista with all the eye-candy turned on. As long as the end results are higher than the 950 then i will be a happy camper. This seems to me like the perfect solution since i can hold out for a DX10 card, while in the meantime, getting by with the X3000.

Hope the G965 performs as well as the P965 in overclocking...just waiting for the guys here at Anandtech to roll out the reviews.

Well thanx for tha info...

A bit more than i bargained for but hey....knowledge is power.

Right now i'm still trying to fix my ASRock 775Dual-VSTA....😕:shocked:

The BIOS flash got interrupted...now the mobo is "dead".
