Microsoft does not make it easy to find out the difference. I have searched the web site for a while now. For some reason, both versions are prominently featured for download. Is there some reason to download 9.0 instead of 9.0a? Why is there no redistributable version of 9.0a? (only the web installer)

If you read the info thing on the web install page for DX 9.0a, it tells you what the differences are. Its mainly a bug fix for the major DX9 bugs.

The problem is that there was no redistributable file for 9.0a. There may be now, but I don't have time to check at the moment.

In DXdiag does it specify which version is on your system?9.0 or 9.0a?All mine says is DX9.

DXDiag should report the DirectX version as 9.0a (4.09.0000.0901) if you have installed 9.0a.
