Difference between CPU "Stepping" & "Revision?"

I'm fairly new to the exciting new world of BYO PCs and overclocking. I've come a long way and have built a few systems now, all overclocked to one degree or another. However, I'm still unable to get decisive info on what the difference is between processor "stepping" and "revision."

Do the two terms mean the exact same thing, or is one a subset of the other? Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me understand this.

Near as I can tell, on this here forum, when someone is talkign about stepping, its that long code on the IHS, which sontains the week built etc.

Revision is what you see in CPU-Z (like E4 or something)

But im not sure about this, so some confirmation would be great.

Kakumba, thanks for the reply. Interestingly, it's CPU-Z that prompted my question in the first place. CPU-Z contains info for BOTH "revision" and "stepping." It's evident a given CPU has both a revision and a stepping. Weird, as I had always thought the two terms were synonymous.

CPU-Z shows me my CPU is stepping 2 and DH-E6 revision but the package says I have E3. I don't which one I really have E3 or E6?
