Cat 6 was the new standard for gigabit ethernet. What the technical difference is inside, I do not know for sure. Although it is probably just a slightly larger gauge of wire.
I has to do with the shielding and twisting of the specific pars inside. I dont know the specific difference, but I do know that the arrangement of the wires internaly, and the shieldinfg used make Cat6 better for long range faster ethernet.
