I'm considering buying a new printer, since my old Epson photo 750 seems to be getting kinda pricey to operate.
I read that canons have good value. So I'm just wondering, is there a big difference in print quality between the i560 and the i860? Is there a big difference in photo prints? canon i560 seems to be $99 ar and the i860 is $130.

Peter would be the Man to answer IMO and other then a spare Black cartridge and an adapter for 4X6 Photo Paper, I see no difference.

Model numbers are a tad different here in Germany. IIRC, the 860 uses two black inks (photo and text), and has a second paper feed unit for the 10x15 cm photo paper. And I reckon it's faster too.

I suggest you visit the Canon web site and view the specification sheets side by side. They're pretty precise and detailed.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll go with the i860 seems that the special pigment based black ink is better for docs?

Pigment black ink doesn't mix with other colors, and looks worse in photo prints. However it stays more at the surface of the paper, and gives sharper text.

So yes, the two blacks in the i860 are indeed there to manage this dilemma. And thanks to the larger 3eBK cartridge, you're not running out of black ink that often if you print a lot of text.

The i860 has more internal memory on top of the feeder and extra black cartridge. Just bought another i560. this is our 11th Canon printer. One S750 we had for 2 years died of printhead faliure after thousands of copies.

... and you didn't simply replace the head? They're surprisingly un-expensive ...

Peter,

All I could find was one on E-bay for $55 and another from a supply company for $87. A new i560 is $89 at Costco. So I opted for that.
What are you paying for a S750 printhead?

Something in that range. Last Canon head I bought was a Black head for an S450, it was 32 euros, the color and photo heads would have been around 50.

What is frequently overlooked is that those heads come with a complete set of ink carts. So actually they're just a few bucks.
