Any info on the difference in activation restrictions of WinXP Pro bundled with a pre-built machine (like HP) and an OEM version available in Newegg.com?

Newegg's are better, since they are not tied to only the HP/Compaq/Dell system that it came bundled with. Other than that, they are the same.

But it WILL be tied to the first system it is installed on.

That was my concern. When my XP failed to activate after some silly upgrade, I activated it with my second license key. Now both are tied to one motherboard. I was wondering if I can activate it for another machine. I thought since I did not buy that Windows XP with any hardware (certainly not a motherboard), I should be able to activate it with a new motherboard legally.

If it failed activation, they would have activated it over the phone. They still will. Just use both keys and explain the circumstances. They're not going to force you to lose a key because you used two keys on one motherboard. Trust me.
