Yeah, that Seagate 3TB has three 1TB platters. I ordered two of them last month, and both died on me after a few days of use. Based on reviews on Amazon and NewEgg, both the 3TB and 2TB model are having issues. After I returned the Seagate, I tried Western Digital Black 2TB and Hitachi Deskstar 2TB and haven't had any problem with those.

Interesting that the new drive costs so much less. Thanks for the info though!

I have been using an Xt 3TB now for 6 months and it's lightning fast, in fact, day to day use I often feel it's faster than my Crucial M4 for sequential read/write - and it's quiet. If someone told me it was an SSD just based on real world use, I'd buy that story. If you get a lemon there is nothing you can do about it, no manufacturer will be flawless. But if you can find the XT vs the new version, I'd snag one

I just got one and am going to pair it with an OCZ Synapse cache SSD for my main rig.
