Difference between ATM and debit card?

I'm signing up for HSBC right now and they're asking me if I want an ATM or debit card..

I thought they were the same? What's the difference?

ATM card might only be usable at an ATM, or the debit card might only be usable in stores and not at ATM's.
Why not ring and ask or check their website?

Wells Fargo offers a ATM/debit card option I have. you can use it as an ATM or use it as a credit card. quite handy since I hate paying with credit, but I'm almost always out of cash

An ATM card can't be used ot pay at gas stations, stores or online purchases.
a debit card can (to my knowledge it can be used liek a credit card)

Just get a debit card. that will most likely get you all the funtionality of an ATM card plus you can use it as a credit card. Atleast mine allows me too. Here's a trick for all you cons out there: When i buy something and they ask me if it's credit or debit, I always just say credit cause it saves me the trouble of having to punch in my PIN number and it always works fine.

So signing your name is less trouble? 😕

I don't want a debit card, just an ATM card. I have credit cards I can use which give me cash rebates.
