Difference between Athlon Thunderbird and classic

Hello!

I want to buy an Athlon Thunderbird 900Mhz CPU from a computer fair (in the UK) but I don't know how to tell the difference between a Tbird and a classic Athlon - can anyone please help? Are there any markings I can look for on the CPU?

Take a polychromatic noncoherent photon generator with you(pocket flashlight). Look down in the slot in the bottom and see if it has cache chips near the indents in the heatplate. A Tbird has on-die cache a classic will have the cache chips. Also the Tbird heat plate should be aluminum ,excuse me, aluminium color on the side where the heat sink goes and the classic is black. All this is assuming they are supposed to be slotA. There is no such thing as a socket A classic Athlon.

T-Birds are generally Socket-A, but if you are looking to buy a slot A T-Bird, they are packaged as "with Performance Enhancing Cache!"

If it's SocketA it's a TBird

If it's SlotA, read the top of the cartridge for the Model number.
If the model number starts wtih:
AMD K7900 it's a Classic
AMD A0900 it's a Thunderbird

That's just the start there are some more letters and numbers after that part.
