ok this will probally sound stupid and ive been reading this forum for awhile but this is my first post. i know the difference between the p4 533/800fsb and the celeron systems. but whats the difference between all the AMD processors? im running a celeron 2.4ghz but my friends amd 2800 (i think, it runs at 2.1ghz) runs so much smoother during gaming and in general. if someone could give me insite id be great.

Just click on the CPU/Chipsets tab for articles on the different intel and AMD CPUs.

The 400 FSB Celerons are awful, take a look at the benchmarks in the recent AMD Sempron article.

Ranking slow to fast: (not ranked by "value for money")
* Celeron
* dead turtle in cement
* AMD Duron, Sempron
* AMD XP, intel P4 533 FSB
* intel P4 800 FSB
* AMD 64

This is really rough. the AMD XP is a good chip, AMD just based its ratings on 400-533 FSB P4s so they don't really match up honestly against the P4 800 FSB. A P4 2.8C matches an XP 3000-3200+. With the AMD 64 they got honest again and claimed a lower rating than they could have -- AMD64 3000+ matches a P4 3.2C.

As far as an AMD XP processor goes, I would definately get a mobile over a barton (just upgraded my barton to a a64, however). They are still an awesome value (when overclocked).
