i want to upgrade from onboard audio and i want it to last a while. PS; i'm also a BF2 player.

I'm looking at x-fi cards but i don't need all the fancy front controls and stuff.

MY QUESTION; is the board for the "extreme music" the same as the "xfi platinum"?

I think the elite pro and fatlaty ones are slightly different but i'm don't need those prices.

There is one more difference between the 4 cards if you get an elite pro, which are the DACs included on the board... besides the ability to hook up the external device...

The high-end X-Fi Elite Pro uses four Cirrus Logic CS4398 stereo DACs. These are the same DACs used in the Audigy 4 board, and offer better signal-to-noise ratio than the 8-channel CS4382. Like the CS4382, the 4392's can handle both PCM and DSD digital streams. In addition, the board features a Xilinx XC9536XL, a programmable logic device that can be used in a variety of applications, but has been used in some devices to handle DRM wrappers for digital audio.

"Red LEDs will make you frag like Fatal1ty, or so we've been told."

Beautiful.

The main difference for the standard gamer with low-midrange speakers and average headphones is the additional X-Ram on the high end versions. The Xtreme Music and Platinum versions only have 2mb.

I installed the Xtreme Music last week to replace onboard and love it. Is it worth the price difference between it and the Audigy 2 ZS? Since everyone's running out of stock, best price on the 2 ZS I could find was $75 after tax/shipping, and I picked the X-fi up for $99+tax after rebate at Fry's.

Oh, and the Fatal1ty board has a little glowing logo you can see if you have a transparent case cover. That way, you can show the world that your system is pwn3d by Fatal1ty...

From the same review as above :)

I picked up the x-fi and turned on the settings to ultra-hi on BF2. it's like a whole new game. everythings sounds different and better. the guns all don't sound the same anymore. it's awsome! got some extra FPS too because of the hardware accelleration on it.
