Difference between AGP 4x and 8x?

hello,

i'm running a 1700+ with an 9600 XT on an AGP 4x slot. (the 9600 XT is an AGP 8x card)

i'm wondering if upgrading to an agp 8x motherboard will make a huge difference or not.
