Difference between a XP 1500+ and a 2000+ ?

Is there any physical difference between these chips? Are the 1500+ chips just downclocked 2000+ ? Or do they just make a bunch of chips, test each one, and label it according to it's performance? Bottom line is this...I'll be buying a new cpu soon, and I see no need in paying for a 2000+ if a 1500+ will reach the same speeds. This will be my first AMD chip, so I'm not real hip to how well AMD chips O/C.

Thanks...

The core steppings are different. The 2000+ core is able to reach higher frequencies because of numerous refinements and improvements done to the original Palomino core. This doesn't make it a different core per se, so they're just referred to as steppings.
