Difference between 9800NP and 9800 Pro?

I searched but couldn't find anything. Just want to know what the difference is.

The core and memory clockspeeds. The 9800NP is about as fast as a 9700Pro.

FYI, unless you've got a 9800NP with Infineon RAM, most 9800NP's are able to hit Pro speeds with no problems. My first 9800NP was made by ATI and the infineon RAM chips wouldn't run over 325.

I picked up a Sapphire 9800NP that had been flashed to a Pro and is currently running over XT speeds at 425 core and 380 memory. 🙂

Some 9800nps are limited by the bios also. you may need to flash the card to prevent the core from throttling down whenever u clock it up.

You just need to use a utility, like ATITool to overclock the card.

Does your card have 3.3ns or 2.8ns Samsung memory? If it's 2.8ns then you can pretty much guaranteed flash your card to Pro (you can certainly run Pro clocks on it without problem). If it's 3.3ns Samsung RAM, then you might need to put some RAMsinks on those chips before you can run at Pro/XT speeds (I had a 9800np with 3.3 ns Samsung RAM. My memory overclocked to only 310 Mhz or so from the stock 290 MHz until I got some nice, small BGA Ramsinks, then I could o/c the RAM all the way to 370 MHz!).

Also, that cooler isn't very good - it barely does better than stock cooling with the extra fan you have to buy; without the fan it's worse (or certainly no better).

I know the cooler isn't very good, but it's quiet...and that's what I want 🙂

I'll take a look at the memory to see what I've got.

My roommate has a 9800 Pro in a computer that he's giving to a friend who doesn't play any video games. So, I thought maybe I'd offer him $20 to upgrade to the Pro and just give him my Non-Pro.

Will see what happens.
