Difference between 8xAF quality and 8xAF performance.

I keep hearing that 8xAF Performance is near free on ATI cards (9500s and up), but whats the visual difference between the performance and the quality setting.
Are there any screenshot comparisons that you can point me to?

I don't have any screenshots handy, but I know it made a difference (Q vs P) in Giants. I think quality uses trilinear filtering (as opposed to either bilinear filtering, or no filtering) between the mipmap levels - with the Performance setting, I got this. (ok, so I did still have an old screenshot)
As I'd fly around, the mipmap levels would be clearly visible, moving with me. Quality mode blends the levels much better.

As of now, with the latest drivers, Quality uses trilinear filtering on the first mip level and bilinear on the rest while Performance uses bilinear for all mips unless the game you are running allows you to select anisotropic filtering in game where quality can then give you full trilinear.

In a nutshell performance uses bilinear AF while quality uses trilinear AF.

I recommend you use 16x performance for the best combination of speed and image quality. In the vast amount of cases you won't even notice the difference between the two.

Did you use the maximum 16x setting?

Just a quicky, how do i set it too 16xAF performance?
Theres no obvious way to do it. Its not part of the AF slider. Do you mean the MipMap slider thing?

BoomAM the 3D tab, select custom and you`ll see it near the slider(only two choices performance or quality) then you just select 16x or 8x etc, don`t forget to do it twice in custom for both OpenGL and D3D.

Must be invisible. Cos i cant see it.
Theres the main slider at the top where you can vary between quality, balanced and performance, but that just changes the mipmap settings and the texture quality settings.
Im using 3.7 bty, not 3.8.

Look for a custom button make sure it`s ticked in the box then click on the custom button.

With 16x performance you'll see great IQ and very good performance. You will hardly see differences between that and 8x quality (at least I see little to nothing).

Also 16x AF performance setting will give better FPS in gaming then 8x AF quality setting.

Hmm.
I`ll try it.
Lets say for example; Im running UT2003, and im getting say 80fps. What FPS drop could i expect? 5fps? 10fps?
