Anyone know the difference between the two? All I can tell is that maybe the preferred one doesn't have a fan and is more money.

it probably has to do with the power supply.

the default power supply that comes with the case is 230W and is also not AMD approved for their Athlon\duron processors (well, actually the motherboards)

the vendor that you cut and paste that out of probably replaced the default with a power supply that is AMD approved.

if that is the case, then the approved one should actually cost more.

tell me the price, and i'll tell you if it is worth it.

i picked up a 7237 at onvia without a power supply for less than $30. the antec 300W is like $40. so...

I forgot what vendor I cut and pasted that from (the link was in this forum somewhere). Anyway, here is another cut and paste from Onvia.

72370X3A Enlight Corp ATX MID TOWER CASE W/300W P/S AMD RECOMMENDED
$66.14
72370X3 Enlight Corp ATX MID TOWER CASE W/300W P/S AND FAN
$59.52

So if I get the recommended one, the power supply is better but I don't get a fan?

Get your own fans they are cheap and you can choose if you want quitet ones or want more airflow. It is better to have a good AMD approved power supply (atleast that is my oppinion).

Can you recommend a fan? Oh, and where I should put it? This is my first venture into pc building.

Start with 1 80mm in front blowing IN. Later you can add 1 or two in rear blowing OUT. Other case mods can be done once you have determined your needs based on running setup.

AMD recommended basically means that the PSU draws air from the bottom instead of the back of the psu. This is recommended by AMD because it draws air from the cpu area- not really necessary if you have plenty of fans and a good heatsink. Load up w/ fans , get at least a 300w PSU and let it eat!!

Thanks everyone.
So in summation, should I get the AMD preferred model (still confused about that one) or is that unnecessary and I should get the cheaper one with the fan? What warrants the AMD preferred model being more money since it's minus the fan? By the way, I have tried asking these online retailers what the difference is and they are as clueless as I am ;)

well, AMD approved power supply just means that AMD has tested those power supplies to work with the athlons and athlon motherboards. this means a higher quality power supply overall which is worth the extra money.

if you don't care, feel free to order the other one. i do recommend a 300W PS though, so get the other one you posted. too bad they don't have the PS free one in stock. i'd tell you to get that and the antex 300W power supply.

Thanks Koukla. My mechanical skills are pretty limited so I'll try to stick to the basics fanwise:)
