The GT has the full set of pipelines and shaders, the same number as the Ultra, just lower clockspeed. Cheaper 6800s cut in on the number of hardware unit.

In effect, that makes the GT a much more powerful card than the clockspeed might imply.

so is it at all worth it to consider an ultra, i mean, lets say the money wasn't an issue. Is there any reason to go ultra instead of gt. I mean if you can just overclock it to the ultra why would any one want to get an ultra? Or are the ultra's even more overclockable. I am considering eather buying a gt or an ultra and i just cant decide on which to get. Also what's the best card for eather the ultra of the gt. Right now im looking at the asus. Im seriously considering the asus 6800 ultra but im just not sure if its worth it. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks

The Ultra's ussually clock highier, because they have .1 highier vgpu then the GT's (1.4 vs 1.3) They have 2 molex connectors instead of 1, 2 DVI connectors and have a better cooler.
If money is no object go for the Ultra. If money is a concern grab a GT, they are great cards.

what card manufacturure makes the best 6800 ultra. I have heard good htings about asus's card, although many say its a little overpriced for the performance gain over other cards. any opinions? the price of the asus dosent really bother me but if there is a better card that i should look i would like to know about it. Thanks for all the help.

The GT and the 6800U are the same except they have different clock speeds. The 6800 has lower clock speeds again and also is 12x1, unlike the other two that are 16x1.

like basicaly my isse is, i don't mind spending the money for the ultra if it is worth it. This will probably be the last card i buy for a while, since i will need to go pci express by the time i need to upgrade again. So i want a card im going to be hapy with for at least a year.
