Difference between 64-bit PCI and 32-bit

In the market for some Gigabit adapters...need some assistance with what performance differences may exist between the two. Is there also compatability issues that may arise?

 

i heard that you should go for pci-x if you can because it wont chew up the bandwiddth on the pci bus.
