Difference between 3DMark03 and 05?

Testing out a card on a rig I'm diagnosing.. it's a 256MB version of the 9800 Pro. The card randomly restarts the computer when playing games like WoW.

Testing it via running both 03 and 05 3DMark, it runs 03 just fine, however crashes out shortly after starting the second test of 05. What specifically are the graphical differences between 03 and 05 that could possibly be causing me this issue?

lol it happens to me also, all the benchmarks worked fine for both 6600 and my x850xt, except for 3dmark05. the 05 is buggy so, not to be surprised to see it have an error during a test. Usually it works after a couple of retries 🙂

Unfortunately this also happens when playing games like WoW. Is this a driver issue or something common to 9800's?

are u ocing??? u can try updating ur drivers getting the latest catylest and chipset drivers... make sure to use driver cleaner.. also 05 is obviously more taxing on the system than 03..

Well, I just tossed zalman's and a silencer rev 1 on the card to see if that would help. It is not overclocked, in fact I actually underclocked the core by 10.

Here is the odd thing. It's running BF2 with all settings on medium, AAx2, at 12x9 and it's run for the past hour without a hiccup.. however about 10-20 minutes into WoW and 3-4 minutes into 3DMark05 it crashes and restarts.

Very odd.

Edit: Note, this was happening on 5.6 and 5.7 cats. No CCC, just driver.

Hmm.

I don't know what to tell you, but I kinda went through a similar situation. My 6800Ultra did CS:S for about 20 minutes, then brought my comp into a reboot loop. However, it ran all the 3DMarks and Sims 2 fine. I recently added it onto my water loop and now it plays everthing fine.

Just going replace it as defective. It works perfectly on the NF7-S I have as a tester machine so I'm assuming it likes nForce and dislikes VIA.
