Basically trying to figure out what the differences are between the two identical drives, that have 2 different model numbers.

ST31000333AS vs ST31000340AS Both are 1TB drives.

Does the 340 vs 333 mean its the most current model?

Any major changes

The 333 is faster apparently. I got a 340 one and it has 4 platers (4 * 250gig), the 333 might be a 3 plater version (3 * 333gig), that would be my guess.

One of my 340s has failed within a month of purchase, and the other works fine but I don't really trust it due to Seagate firmware issues with a lot of 1tb models.
I'd look at other brands.
