I think what he meant to say is "Unlocked and OC'ed the 6600 beats or equals the 9800 pro). It really just depends on the game you're playing.

The mem on the 6200 won't ever reach the 900 mhz mem stock of the 6600 GT for AGP's, but I hear people pushing 700 mhz ram on the 6200. That's pretty impressive for a $115, this is brand new too.

BFG10K: Identical cards are you meaning same ram speed? If so then yes. However, usually with 256 mb versions if the ram is slower, the company usually puts the ram at the same speed as the 128 mb versions. Just for OC'ing it's tougher to reach the really high ram speeds.

Thanks GTPoompt, is there a performance benchmark done on the latest ATI and nVidia cards? It would be nice to refer such chart to see how are the 6600 and 6800 compare to the ATI cards!

There are plenty right here on anantech. Hit the video tab on the top of this page and look back at when the cards you want to look at were released (or ones after that) and it will show you how they compared.

EDIT: tomshardware is another place to look
this article has the 6200, 6600, 6600gt, 6800gt etc. benchmarked for a variety of games.

Yep, 1.4fps vs 0.8fps on the 6200 ;)

No, sneakystuff, believe me, the 6200 has been OCed and had pipelines unlocked and scored 3100 on 3dmark05...and you said that it doesnt beat a 9800? last time i checked they only got 2500 at most.

The people that work with the Unreal 3 engine said that a 6600GT would easily run it. Now, you can't say "no it wouldn't" because i think they know more about it than you do ;) so actually, you can get a 6200 to run around 6600/GT or somewhere in between.

yeah i didn't think the 9800 pro was as fast as the X700, so i would say the vanilla 6600 and the 9800 pro are ABOUT the same. Remember each card has it's strengths and weaknesses.

but OC'ing the memory on the 6200 will let it pull ahead of the 9800

EDIT: is there a VGA cooler or fan that fits on the 6200? possibly somehow mod an old AMD heatsink and slap it on there ;)
